We found a cool park in Milton, WV. Milton is between Charleston and Huntington. This dragon is in a park with a small splash pad. I saw it going to some one's office a week ago and when we were headed back from Lexy's... Aaaahhh... Alexis' skating competition in Lexington we stopped by to stretch our legs. I think that the kids have fun.

Throughbred Skating
Lexy... Um... Alexis, skated again this weekend. This time in Lexington, KY at the Throughbred Figure Skating Club's competition. She did great. She won 2nd place in her event, she skated the Basic 6 Program. I need to get the video uploaded, but if you follow this blog you see that I have been S L A C K I N'... Sorry 'bout that...
Here is Lexy... Um... Alexis in great form, foot high and holding the move. Here is Lexy... Um... Alexis and her coach, Mischa. Mischa is great. She is very patient, mellow and skates very well herself. She has been teaching, coaching, Alexis three days a week. She keeps drawing Mischa for group lessons. Then Mischa is one of the Syncro coaches and then private lessons on Wednesdays. Amy took this amazing shot of Lexy... Um... Alexis after she was done skating on Saturday. I can't wait to touch it up and have it printed to hang in my office. It is soooo cute.
Come back for more... I will try to pick it up some.. Help is on the way...

A Little Hockey Action
The kids have been going to power skating in Tuesdays. It is a great program, lots of fast paced music and working on skating skills. JD (Isaac's hockey coach) has switched up the program from 1 hour of power skating drills to 45 min of power skating drills and 45 min of stick and puck work. Both kids have loved it.
Even Lexy got into the action. We borrowed a helmet from Butch and she took to the ice.

Look at her go...
Here is a pro shot of Lexy during her competition in April at the South Charleston Memorial Ice Arena. She placed first in both events. This is the sample photo, it's good enough I think we'll buy it. This weekend we are headed to Lexington for her to compete in the Thoroughbred Figure Skating Club competition. She is skating in the Basic 6 program. She has been working hard on her routine. She has been trying to get her '3 Turns' down better, on Saturday she did about 50 '3 Turns' to practice.

Cub Scout CampOree...
I took Isaac and the other cubs to the Buckskin Council CampOree on Saturday. They had a bunch of fun. We had about half of the boys that made it.
They started off looking through the mountain man camp. They had old tents, they were cooking over the fire, and one fellow had some sweet old rifles. He had one kind that I had never seen, it was a trap door rifle. He told us that they were mostly conversions from standard black power rifles. They would cut a door in the top of the breech where a cartridge could be placed in the chamber, then the trap door was locked into place, and fit could be fired. It was quite interesting.
Here is a picture of the boys and their guide from the scaffold maze. It was set up with Cub Scout questions and if they got the answers correct they took a short cut. You can also see that they each got a bamboo walking staff. This one was a little scary. They had on boy sit on a cart, like from under a garage can, while the other one pushed him around a loop in the sidewalk. I am surprised that there were not more skinned knees.

The rock climbing wall was a big hit with the boys. Isaac made it to the top, he was stoked. He told me that he used his legs a lot more that his arms this time and his hands were not nearly as sore. The WV National Guard was running the climbing wall, the guy strapping on the harnesses saw Isaac's 'Recruiter' badge (from inviting David to join) and had him tell one of the other guys that he was a recruiter. I caught wind of the conversation and had Isaac tell both of them that he was too honest to be a recruiter. They enjoy the joking.
Isaac found the pogo sticks. Most of the boys there had trouble with them, even the Boy Scouts, probably because they have not used one before. The guy tried to help Isaac get started, Isaac took off with it and ended up having a bunch of kids stop to watch him ride the thing.
So, the is a quick overview of the CampOree. Thanks to Matt and James for helping me herd cats... aaaa... I mean the boys.

Darlene Bastian
My best friend growing up (6th grade on) lost his mother this weekend. She had been quite sick with lung problems over the last few years. It is heart breaking... Darlene is one of the most caring, selfless people that I have ever known.
Mark and I have been quite close, he and I used to goto school together, ride dirtbikes, camp, hunt, swim in the Rockey Ford 6 day a week in the summer, we worked at Alvey Lumber together, did 4-H and Scouts together, we were roommates at Snow College, and Mark lived with Amy and I in Logan for a little over a year before he got married and bought the place across the street.
Darlene always had him set for what ever he needed. She would send home made bread with him, fresh whole milk, or what ever else we needed.
She will be missed. Here is a like to an obituary. They have the funeral planned for Saturday the 8th in Sigurd, Ut.

The Pool is Open...
The Ridges pool open up yesterday... The kids and I had a deal, if their homework was done when I picked them up, we could go to the pool. They had it done. So, while I checked their homework they changed into their swimsuits. I didn't. I sat by the side and returned phone calls for work. They had a lot more fun than I did.
Here are a few shots of the kids splashing around.

Skating Spring Show
The Charleston Figure Skating Club had their spring show today. They had about 20 skaters or teams that skated. It was a nice event. Lexy skated with her Syncro Team. This is a quick video of the photos and video that we took during the show. They skated to 'The Ants Going Marching'. It was cute as always.
Enjoy.
Enjoy.
