More Christmas Pictures

Here are some more pictures from Christmas Day. I know they are kind of dark, but with the phone and outside on a gloomy day, it's what we have.

This one is Lexy with her new stuff. She has on her new jacket, new pants, new shoes (with new socks), new Nintendo DSi XL, and new iPod. She is ready to roll. I hope that all of that stuff helps make our trips fun for her. This one is of Isaac in the pedal car. Both kids got pedal cars. They are quite fun and adjustable. They have been having fun riding them in the driveway and down the street. I am pretty impressed with how far Isaac can pedal them on the hills by the house.

Christmas in WV

Well we have survived Christmas of 2010. We had a great day. The kids took the opportunity to sleep in until a little after 7:30am. Kind of cool if Amy and I would have slept too. I woke up at 5:30am and never did get back to sleep, Amy woke up around 7:15am. The kids tore into the presents right away. Isaac was like a heat seeking missile finding all of his presents and getting them open quickly, quickly. After a bit he wanted to stop and wait so Christmas morning would last longer.
Here is a collage of photos mostly from Christmas morning.
The kids got more that they should have for Christmas. But, boy were they happy about that. The highlights are, iPod's, XBox360, Kinects, pink Flip Video, and pedal cars. Amy got the electric blanked and panini grill that she has been wanting. Travis got a new Broncos hat, Utah State shirt, and a 1 TB, USB 3.0 portable hard drive. WooHoo...!!!
Of course we had our usual home made crescents with strawberry cream cheese for breakfast. This year Isaac and I made some blackberry cream cheese as well. Then for lunch we had a spiral cut honey ham and twice baked potatoes. Great eats from Christmas day.
We hope that you all had a Merry Christmas too.

O' Christmas Tree, O' Christmas Tree

If ya know me, ya know that I don't like the Christmas Tree up too early. Well, this year Amy convinced Isaac to ask me to put it up before his birthday. See that is a good rule that we have been living, the tree doesn't go up until after Isaac's birthday. That keeps the birthday separate and special. So... I caved and the tree when up the weekend of December 4th this year. I haven't done much to talk about it... in protest. Trisha asked for a picture a while back, well here it is, a picture of our Christmas Tree. Enjoy.

Amy Loves Wednesdays

Amy loves her Wednesdays this rotation. At Cabell-Huntington she has elected to work the four tens options. Most of the other students choose to take every other weekend as a four day weekend. Amy likes to take Wednesdays off. It has worked out pretty good for her. She works Monday and Tuesday, sleeps in and catches up on Wednesday, then works Thursday and Friday. Pretty good schedule. It has given her the opportunity to go to some of the kids school activities. Here she and Isaac are during the 'Be a Kid Again' day.

Isaac's Birthday

IT'S ISAAC'S 10TH BIRTHDAY...!!! He chose bowling as his party, so we locked in a party room at Galaxy Lanes in Kanawha City. It turned out pretty good. We had six boys come to the party. From left to right, Jonathan (in Isaac's class), JoJo (3rd base friend), Joel (3rd base friend), Braden (on Isaac's hockey team), the birthday boy, David (from our neighbourhood), Lexy Jo, and Andrew (from Isaac's class).
Of course he had a bunch of presents at home too, PVC pipe for making marshmallow guns, flame print duct tape, new DC Shoes, a snow skate, and Lexy gave his Sorry Spinners. He loved all the presents.Isaac wanted a hockey puck for a birthday cake. Of course Amy and I put it together. We didn't want to use black food coloring because it make the frosting taste bad and gets all over the kids. So, we used crushed Oreo cookies mashed into the frosting to get a black look. We figured that just a black cake would be weird, so we put Isaac's hockey team logo on the top of that cake.
Here is a picture of the cake with Isaac jersey that we used for the image.

As a side note. This is our 300th post. I hope that you all enjoy them.

Still Shots from the Winter Wonderland Show

Here are some still shots from the Winter Wonderland Show that was put on by the South Charleston Memorial Ice Arena Learn to Skate Program. The kids both skated in this show. Lexy skating with her Synchro Team, with Isaac in a routine, and in a solo routine.

Isaac ready and waiting for the pairs routine that he skated with Lexy. If you go to our UStream Channel you can see the video of them skating. It is the same routine that they did at The Greenbrier last month, just with more props and better ice. Lexy and Isaac just before they went on for their program.
Isaac pushed out the chimney prop from behind. The audience couldn't see him until the music started and he started to skate. Look at those nice handles on the back of the chimney. That is one high class cardboard box.Lexy and her friends from the Synchro team watching the show from the hockey boxes, that was the back stage area.
This is Lexy in her solo routine dress, by the tree from the pairs routine. Cutie...

  • Isaac and Lexy skate together at about the 9:30 mark.
  • Lexy's solo program is at about 19:15.
  • And the big pairs couple (JD and Alexis D) skates at around the 28:15 mark.
  • At about the 33:00 mark the free for all starts, Isaac didn't skating that part, but you can see what Lexy likes to do on her own.

Hockey in Northen Kentucky

Isaac's hockey team played in Cincinnati this week end. Two games in the Norhtern Kentucky area on Saturday, and one in Miami, Oh on Sunday. We missed the Sunday game. Isaac's team crushed the Northern Kentucky Black Team. It was like 18-0 and 20-0. Pretty dominating.

Here is a picture of the team huddle prior to the first game. Isaac got to play goalie for the first time in the first game on Saturday. He was pretty board. This is an ACTION shot. He only got the chance to make 3 saves in the whole game.
The WV Wild won by about 18-0. I say about because the scoreboard operator quite showing the goals after it was 9-0. I was pretty sad. Our coaches called off the team in the 3rd period. They told them to just pass the puck in the attack zone, and not score goals.
Isaac switched pads for the second game and played left wing. He had a great game. It was the same team from the first game. Isaac was able to score a goal and got a playmaker. A playmaker is when a player gets 3 assists in the same game. It's a good stat to have.
That is Isaac in the middle of this picture.
Again they won by about 20. The scoreborad guy left it as 9-0. Even Isaac listened to the coaches when they called of the boys in the middle of the 2nd period. Isaac has a couple of chances for breakaways, but he 'dumpped' the puck into the zone like the coach asked.

I have been trying to get Isaac to stand in the 'hockey pose' for each place that he plays. His one is pretty good. After the game we hit the road for home. We had to get in Charleston for a skating show on Sunday afternoon. On the way we stopped at Big Boy for lunch. It was fun for the kids to see the Biy Boy and have their picture with him. The food wan't as good as I remember.

First Snow

We got our first real snow of the year. About 2.5 or 3 inches on the ground this morning. There have been some snow flurries, but this time it stuck. Isaac and Lexy LOVE the snow. They love to sled, ski, snowball fight, make snow angles, school out, etc. The really like the snow.

This is a picture of the front yard. Isaac and Lexy suited up and ready for the snow. They have a couple of sleds like to one in the bottom of the picture. There is a hill just up the street that they walk to to ride them.
For some reason the snow put Amy in the Christmas mood. She wanted to buy a Christmas tree and get it up today. Here she and the kids are shopping for a tree. It is a week early, she convinced the kids that they wanted it up, then had them come to me to beg. I like to have Isaac's birthday before the tree goes up. This year it didn't work out.

More Greenbrier Skating Pictures

These pictures are from one of Lexy's teammate's mother. Some nice pictures. I stole them from FB. Thanks Kelly...!!

Five of the eight girls went to The Greenbrier performance. Karly, Elisa, Maddy, Katelyn, and Lexy. This is right at the beginning of their program. This is at the finish of their program.
This picture is the girls and their coach Ms. Vicky. This is a fun picture with some of the older girls. From left to right, Lexy, Abby, Devon, and Maddy. Maddy's mom is Kelly who took and posted these pictures. Abby is Ms. Heidi's daughter and JD's sister. And Devon's grandmother is the one who put this whole Greenbrier trip together for us.It was a great time and a wonderful experience for the kids. I hope to have the video(s) loaded up in the next few days.

West Virginia Wild - Squirts

Here are the West Virginia Wild, squirts. They are waiting for permission to get on the ice. They played the Athens, Oh travel team. My goodness they brought some fast kids..

Ice Skating at The Greenbrier

Our kids got a wonderful opportunity this weekend. It was a last minute deal, but the kids were invited to perform at the Grand opening of the ice rink at The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulfer Springs, WV. This is one ritzy place, big time $$$ to stay here. Anyway, the synchro team way invited and they asked the girls to bring their Christmas program for the show as well. Lexy has two programs this year. One by herself and one with Isaac. Ms. Vicky wanted them to only do the together program. They skated to 'Zat You Santa Clause", it's a super fun song. Amy made Isaac and Santa suit and Lexy wore her PJ's.

Here they are practicing just before the show. Lexy was wearing her robe as a 'keep warm' measure. This is them in the show. They did perfect. Everyone was pleased. We got several comments on how well they did together.

Here is Lexy enjoying the ice time. Neither of the kids had skated outdoors before. The resort is still working out the bugs on making ice.

During the break between the 11am performance and the 2 pm performance the kids spent some time with the house magician. He had some wonderful tricks. Isaac was the helper for several of them.
This is a picture of Lexy headed from the dressing room to go out on the ice. Look and how tall the doors are on the right. Very cool...
This is a one last picture shot as we were walking to the car after the shows were over. This is a very cool old building.
This was the scene in the back seat on the way home. Isaac asleep and Lexy watching a movie under her blanket. They travel well.
Here are some news paper articles on the event.
More to follow...

Thanksgiving Dinner

We had our usual Thanksgiving feast this year. Again we insisted on it being at our house. But different than that last few, we had people come over. We had 3 families from our church come to dinner. We ended up with 17 people in the house from a 1 year old through the 7 and 9 year olds a bunch of 20 somethings and me to old guy in the group. It was a lot of fun.

I was not too proud of my turkey this year. I went cheap and got the $0.68/lbs one. I thought that it was a 21 lbs. bird and needed 4+ hours to cook. After 2.5 hours it was done. CRAP. That was too early. I had another 2 hours until dinner. So we wrapped it up in towels and tinfoil and put it in the corner. After 2 hours the pan was still too hot to hold. The turkey was falling off of the bones, but I thought it was way too dry. No one else would agree with me.

Amy made fantastic rolls. Shalese was bringing rolls, but we made some anyway. Never can have too many. These have been great to make sandwiches out of.Lanna made little turkey cup cakes. Very cool... Here is the table, all set and ready to go, seating for eight. Here is where people wanted to be, at the kid table. Amy had put big sheets of paper all over the table and set out markers and crayons for the kids who were encouraged to draw away. It was great fun. We hope that everyone had a good Thanksgiving. We sure did.

Moth Man

Moth Man is one the big stories here in West Virginia. It happen around Point Pleasant, where Amy is doing clinicals in April and May. The kids have heard the story in school, it is taught as state history. Kind of a fun story. The kids and I were driving through Point Pleasant yesterday when Isaac saw the statue and begged to go back. So we took some time and stopped by. The kids wanted pictures as "Moth Man"

Here is a link to a web site with a long version of the story.

West Virginia Wild - Squirts in Roanoke, VA

Isaac had his first hockey games this weekend. In fact there were two. Both against the same team on the same day in the same town. We drove to Roanoke, Virginia to play the squirts team there. For those of you new to the kids hockey terms, like me, squirts are the 8 and 9 year old kids.

Here is Isaac after the games, in his hockey pose.
They played at the Roanoke Civic Center. It's a pretty cool place. It is where the Virginia Tech Hokies Hockey team plays.

It was a pretty big stadium for this little guys to play in. This is a shot of the team talking to the coach just before the game. Look at that big stadium and all those empty seats, the squirts get no respect.

Here is an action shot of Isaac playing defence. He did a great job of staying in position, being where he was supposed to be. Keeping the puck in the attack zone and clearing it away from the net and out of the defence zone.
This is a shot of Isaac and his friend Branden on the blue line, Isaac is #75, of course, and Braden is in the yellow helmet. There where the defensive line.Just before the game the coaches handed out stickers for the helmets. Some numbers for the back, "Wild" for the sides, "West Virginia" for the front. It was pretty exciting in the locker room putting them on all the helmets.
