Future USU Hockey Player

Isaac scored an official USU Hockey Jersey...  It's pretty cool to see him skate in it.  He wears it quite a bit around with the hockey team as well.  It's pretty fun to watch.

As a side note the USU Hockey Club (D2) did fantastic this year.  They rode the season all the way to the National Semi-Finals game.  They lost there to Michigan State University.  Way to GO AGGIES....!!!

Hockey Update

Hockey season is in full swing.  Isaac is playing for the West Virginia Wild PeeWee team again this year.  He like the coach this year a WHOLE lot more than the one from last year.  I sure loves playing, and hanging out with his buddies.

For some reason the drive to take photos of him at each game has fallen to the side.  I guess and near a hundred games that happens.  I still LOVE to watch him play...!!!  I still have to explain nearly every Monday, "No, I'm not sick.  It's hockey season and my son played this weekend."  I tend to yell a lot at the games.  We always like to bring the team spirit.

This is a quick shot of Isaac this weekend at one of his games during the starting face off. Big 'ol Number 75 in there.  It's pretty hard for any of the other PeeWee players to move Isaac on the ice.  He's a big strong kid, with a wicked slap shot.
LET'S GO WILD...!!!

P-Day Hockey

Isaac got some P-Day hockey in with our buddy Elder Maxwell, who played for the WHL team the Lethbridge Hurricanes before his mission.  Big time hockey folks, Eh.  They both / all had a blast...!!

Here is Isaac working on some diggin' backhand shots in the crease.  There's Elder Maxwell coaching him.
Here are all four Elders that skated with Isaac that day.  The other three had a blast as well.
Here's that hockey buddies... I hope that they are able to keep in contact for a long, long time.  Elder M is a bunch of fun to have around.

Thank you so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so MUCH Butch for the hook up...!!!

Fun Surprise

A few weeks ago we were headed out on a hockey trip and decided to check in with Aunt Jean and Uncle John.  If you don't know them, They wrote the book on being hockey parents..!!  Amazing people.  They had just got back from a trip to Japan visiting their son Jim.  After we had a good visit we hung up.  About 20 minutes later they called us back.  "We are coming to watch Isaac play!"  How awesome is that!!?  They drove nearly 4 hours each way, sprung for a hotel room all to come watch Isaac play and spend time with us.

Here is Uncle John and Isaac just after the tournament and a sweet burger at Steak N Shake.
They brought the kids a fun treat of Japanese cotton candy gum.  Weird stuff.  But look at how cool the package is.
It must have been cammo day, even Lexy was sporting the cammo hat.

We so love spending time with Aunt Jean and Uncle John.  I wish this picture didn't have Isaac hockey stick hiding Aunt Jean, but it's the best shot I have of all five of us that day.
Thank you so much for making the trip.  We can't wait to see you again.  Maybe we can make a trip up to your place this spring.  In between games and stuff. ;)

Also, here is a picture of Isaac's end of season poster from the coaching staff of the West Virginia Wild (PeeWee's).  Cool poster...!!

Second Breakfast

After the first hockey game at 7:30am on Sunday morning we all went back to the hotels to check out before the next game at 12:30pm.  As such most of the kids had Second Breakfast.
Here are Isaac and Drake enjoying their second breakfast.

This Holiday Inn Express had a pancake machine.  You just push the yellow button in the lower left hand corner of the machine and two minutes later...
Two pancakes spit out the side.
The kids all loved the pancake machine.  I guess the Jetsons don't have much on Holiday Inn.

We stopped by Barns and Noble to grab some books.  Isaac got the third book in the Skeleton Creek series.  Lexy got the Big Book of Girl Stuff.  As we were checking out we saw a display of fake mustaches. They were calling our name, so we bought a box.  Here is Isaac sporting the tight black 'stash.
Myself, I enjoyed the long red one.  In fact I wore it for most of he semi-final games at the tournament.

Misc Hockey 2012

Feel like the blog has missed some hockey this season.  I don't seem to take as many pictures as I used to at the games.  I ran through and picked a few to post today.
Here Isaac is in the warm up drill they do before each game.
Not sure how I got him facing the camera, but this is a blurry shot from the front.
There he is ready at the face off ready to get the pass and take it in...
Isaac is playing right wing in this face off.  This is a good offensive line up.  The other two boys love to pass the puck and work together.
Here he is in the defensive zone looking for the puck to be dropped out where he and take off with it.
Now it's time to head to the locker room...
The West Virginia Wild (PeeWee's) have finished the regular season 22-0.  There were a few games that they almost didn't pull off.  But they enter the tournaments undefeated.  We'll see how they do.

Isaac's Birthday Party

Isaac's Birthday Party at the ice rink turned out great...!!!  We had a great turn out, he got great presents, we all had a great time.  They skated, played the Kinects, ate cake, and just had fun.  Just after this picture the boys started chanting "Cut the Cake!  Cut the Cake!" because Isaac told them he didn't want to eat the cake because he liked it so much.
This is most, but not all, of the boys that came to Isaac's party.  Everyone he invited from his hockey team came, most of the kids from his school that he invited came.  I was really happy at the turn out.
(Go Parker!)
One last picture with the cake before it was cut into pieces and washed down with ice cream and Cranberry Canada Dry.
He was on Cloud 9.  After the party he and I took JoJo to dinner and JoJo got to sleep over.  What a fantastic day for Isaac.

Thank You Butch for taking care of us...!!!

WV Wild vs Athens (PeeWee's) at Home

The West Virginia Wild hosted the Athens Bobcats this last weekend for two back to back games.  The games were much closer this time than when we traveled to Athens.  Isaac is still playing wing and some center.  He is having a to of fun.  Oh, by the way, the Wild won both games.  The score was 3-1 in both games.  Isaac had a sweet 'one timer' it didn't make it in the net, but it was super fun to watch.

Here are some action shots.

Enjoy.

WV Wild #75 :: He shoots... He SCORES...!!!

We drove to Oxford, Ohio this weekend for hockey games. Oxford is the home of the University of Miami, Ohio. It is a bit of a haul, 4 hours + from Charleston. Isaac and Lexy do it like troopers. We actually had a pretty fun drive both ways playing old school in the car games. Here is a cool picture of the rink, such a nice place. And, they got to play on the show ice this weekend.
So, on to hockey. The WV Wild PeeWee's beat the Miami Redhawks in both games. It really wasn't very close. The first game was 7-1 the second was 8-2. These were in league games. This team is playing in the the NKYHA league again this year. Isaac SCORED in both games...!!! That gives him 3 goals on the year. In the first game he was in position and took a pass from Hunter, again. Lifted the puck up and over the goalie pads and in the next. It surprised him that it when in. The second goal is better described with some pictures.

Isaac took a pass from one of the defencemen in the the natural zone. He decided to take the puck in the zone along the near side boards. He had some defenders to beat. I just happened to be there taking some pictures. In this picture he is getting around this defender. If you look close just off of Isaac's right toe you can see the puck that he sent between the other players feet. Which got him around the skater and put him in a position of make a shot with no one but the goalie between him and the net.
Isaac took that shot, he sent the puck sailing through the five hole and into the net. G O A L !!! How AWESOME...!!! It wasn't a game changing goal, but it sure is nice to see him score.
Too bad that the Redhawks are just as poor of sports at they were last year, cussing and punching players in the post game line. S A D !!

Game On...!!!

The first official games of Isaac's 2011-2012 season were the last Saturday in Athens, OH. The Athens team came to Charleston in August, but our boys had not practiced at all yet.

On Saturday we had games at 12:30pm and 7pm. The first game was close on the score board at 2-1 but our kids dominated the game. The puck was rarely in our defense zone. Our defense played great. Especially Will our goalie. He made a save with 5.0 seconds on the clock. The Athens player got behind our defense alone and Will had to make up the difference. It was great.

Here is a shot of Isaac on the bench with the rest of his line. They were off shift.
Here he is on the ice. Watching the puck, ready to make a move.
Another shot of him in action on the ice.
The second game started out kind of slow for the Wild. Athens scored about 2 min into the game. By the end of the first period it was 3-1 with Athens on top. I guess that our kids didn't like that. Shortly into the second period Sara R scored a couple of goals and got a hat trick. About mid way through the second Isaac was in position near the net, he said, "There were a bunch of people around the puck, but I was in position. Then Hunter looked and me, passed me puck and I just hit it in." It was so exciting. I have that image etched into my mind of Isaac skating away from the net, left hand by his side holding the stick, right fist in the air, arm fully extended. Screaming...!!! Yeah...!!!

To top off that part, our special friend Sis Newell was there with her husband. They made the trip just to watch Isaac play. He didn't disappoint. Thanks for coming to the game...!!!

In between the two games the WVU and Ohio University D2 teams played each other. A few of our boys had their picture taken with a few or their's. Isaac is on the far left in his WV Wild warm up suit.
The refs were horrible, the let so much slide that it turned in to a brawl. The stereotypical "We went to the fights and a hockey game broke out." By the middle of the second period it was so bad that this mayhem broke out. There were more pairs of fighters than refs to break it up. Mostly started by the OU goalie. He kept cheap shot'in people by clocking them in the back of the head with his blocker. Sad sight to see.

Hair and Hockey

Lexy and I have been doing as much fun different hair styles as we can. It's fun to have her try something new. She and I watched some YouTube how to videos last night, meh, didn't learn anything ground breaking. But it was fun spending the time with her. So this morning we did the twisty crown. Not much from the front but a super cute smile.
In the back you can see the twisty. And of course, one of Aunt Lynnie's bows. I wish I had a better picture to post up, it is super cute.
Lexy loves the waves in her hair today. She thought it might be left from last week when we did curlers. Nope, it was from yesterday's braids that we left in for the night. I like this one. Sorry the are some fly aways, but the picture was late in the day. It was tighter when I send her to school yesterday. I love the double braids in front of the shoulders.
So last year Isaac's hockey coach called them suicides, in basketball they are called ladders, this year his coach calls them Thunders. They start on the goal line, skate to the blue, back the goal, then out to the red, back the the goal, etc. This picture is the start, Isaac is in the middle with the blue over his jersey. Boy there were never as together again. And when it was all over the ice looked like a war zone, bodies everywhere. Isaac skated pretty hard, his coach just barely beat him and he was about 4th on the team. Good Job, Buddy...!!!
Lexy found a way to entertain herself during hockey practice. She like to help put skates away, clean tables, wash the window, etc. at the ice rink (Let's make sure that is clear "at the ice rink", she doesn't like to do any of those things at home.) But it was all done. It was time to scrub the floors. So, Lexy rode the scrubber machine. She was singing and have a blast. She was pretty much in her own world, did at all care at all as she rode along.

Penguins Game 2011

We got tickets to the free Penguins game on Saturday afternoon. This is the second year that they have done this, they give the whole stadium away to the local kids hockey clubs. We got tickets from the Morgantown folks. Thank you Harry and Chris...!!! It was a great game, we had a cool perspective of the ice from the center on the end about 4 rows up from the rail.

This one is kind of dark, but that is Isaac. Complete with his Kris LeTang jersey on, and the tee shirt..!!
Here is Lexy Jo with the ice behind her. She is still sporting her medal from ice skating earlier in the day.
We had a great view of the ice...
The kids got a minute on the bench..
Chris was nice enough to take a picture of the three of us and texted to me. I hope that you can tell we were having a great time.

WV Wild Pre Pre-Season Game

The Athens, Ohio coach called our PeeWee's coach and wanted to have a preseason scrimmage. What fun. The teams had not skated together yet. The coach didn't know all his players yet. Oh it was so nice to get in the hockey environment again. The WV Wild won 6-1. Our goalie Will almost got a shut out. As for me, I had a blast running the music from the stands using the wireless transmitter and my iPod.

Here is a blurry action shot of Isaac in the white chasing down on of the Athens kids. Here is Isaac on a break away headed in for a shot. He had 3 shots on goal, and one assist.
Here's the young man is skating in position. I was quite proud of him he remember to play his position most of time.
Isaac's number one fan was there too. Lexy was SO excited that Isaac let her wear one of his jerseys during the game.
